Students will learn how to design, build, and launch different programs using the Apple Swift programming language. Projects will include Swift programs on iPads to control robotic devices such as Spheros and Parrot Mambo Fly drones. No prior programming experience needed - students will learn everything they need to create their own programs during this weekend. This retreat is for both non-geeks and geeks who are curious about coding, robots, and drones.
Here is a video of the drone we will be using:
Students will discuss and explore career opportunities in STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology, Math) with deaf adult role models who work in STEM related fields.
Our keynote speaker for the weekend will be Joan "Jo" Bempong from Irving, Texas. Jo recently graduated from RIT where she earned combined bachelor’s/master’s degrees in computer engineering with a minor in Deaf cultural studies. Jo is now working as a Software Engineer at Texas Instruments in Dallas.
