Have you ever asked “What do I do with this student?” You are not alone. Many teachers aren’t sure how to best meet the unique and challenging needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing and low functioning. Itinerant teachers of the deaf often haven’t received enough training in working with students with intellectual disabilities, and special education teachers often haven’t received training in working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Building a Team of Support is a two-day training that provides strategies and best practices for working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing and low functioning. This training is recommended for those who work with this unique population of students, especially life skills teachers, paraprofessionals, speech language pathologists, and itinerant teachers of the deaf. Topics include teaming, audiological management, visual strategies, evaluation of communication skills, and manual communication.
