June 15-17, 2018, was a special weekend in Austin for families with deaf and hard of heraing children hosted by the Educational Resource Center on Deafness at Texas School for the Deaf. Seventy-four families from all over Texas attended for a chance to meet other families and to learn about the many opportunities for communication and education for deaf and hard of hearing children. Throughout the weekend parents and other adult family members attended educational workshops. Presenters included a variety of professionals as well as parents and deaf and hard of hearing adults. Child, youth, and teen care was offered in a "camp-like" atmosphere supervised by qualified staff.
What parents were saying about their family's experience at FWR 2018:
“I am very appreciative of this retreat. This was our first time and never did I think I could find so much information and so many people in my same situation. And everything was excellent, and my entire family returned home full of joy and so much learning. Thanks for everything and we hope to see you next year"
“This was an amazing, educational, eye opening weekend”
“ Always a great time! Fun, informative, networking and forming relationships. My kids LOVE it!”
