The Educational Resource Center on Deafness is looking for contract workers for our live ASL Storytelling classes for the 2017-18 school year. ASL Storytelling Live is an Outreach program to promote literacy to deaf and hard of hearing children. We are contracting for 5-15 hours per week with the opportunity for more hours based on work performance. We offer classes to students who are deaf or hard of hearing that are in mainstream settings across Texas. These classes are free of charge and our main goal is to promote literacy and language. We are looking for candidates who enjoy working with deaf and hard of hearing children and have strong ASL storytelling skills. The candidate should enjoy interacting with children and reading and signing children's literature. Our storytellers serve as language role models for these children and have the ability to make a difference in the lives of children across Texas. These live classes are 30 minutes long and meet on a weekly basis. They are conducted through videoconferencing. We have studios on campus for our storytellers that are setup much like the news weatherman where the books are superimposed using chroma key technology.
We have provided 4 PowerPoint files of various children's stories. Please review the stories and choose a story you would like to use to demonstrate your ASL Storytelling skills. Create a YouTube video of yourself signing the story in ASL and keep in mind you are creating this video for an audience of children. Complete the application below and include your YouTube link.
