Discovery Retreat is offered by the Educational Resource Center on Deafness at Texas School for the Deaf. This progam is a weekend retreat model for deaf and hard of hearing teens designed to provide opportunities for exploring self-identity and career options through adventure learning activities with adult role models.
The retreat mainly targets students from mainstream educational programs who have not had ample opportunities to meet deaf peers or adult role models in their own communities.
A Maker Faire is a celebration of arts, crafts, engineering, science and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset. In our DR Maker Faire students will make, create, experiment, and play with technology. They will learn how to sew and solder, make bridges and cardboard sculptures, explore 3D virtual reality apps and more. Bring your imagination! We will focus on how the Maker Faire experience can help open pathways to a career in a STEM field and a lifelong enjoyment of making things for yourself.
