This day-long workshop introduced parents and teachers to STEM and helped them learn how to guide their students to take advantage of STEM opportunities in middle school and beyond. Students had fun designing, building and programming robots.
DR Oct 2015: Science and Pseudoscience in Ghosthunting (11th-12th grades)
Students explored Longhorn Caverns, which is a popular site for ghosthunting. Students learned how ghost hunters search for evidence of paranormal phenomena and how they themselves can use the scientific method to determine if these phenomena are real or not.
DR May 2015 On the Road: Exploring Rivers (9th-12th grades)
This retreat, held at Leisure Resort in San Marcos, TX, focused on the limnology (the study of bodies of fresh water). Activities included glass-bottom boat and kayak tours of Spring Lake plus tubing on the San Marcos river.
